Friday Night and Weekend Sewing

By the time I got home after work and a big grocery shop on Friday it was nearly too late for any Friday Night with Friends sewing. I was determined, however, not to post until I'd sewn the binding on the Round Robin quilt I've been working on lately.
Finally this morning I got it finished and now, this afternoon, I've have a moment to sit down and write my post!
Yahoo, the quilt is nearly done..... just a bit of playing with the hanging tabs and writing a label and it will be done!
Thank you Cheryll for hosting Friday Night with Friends. I hope there was enough slice for all 30 of us who joined in...!

There's not been a lot happening in The (sewing) Palace this weekend; instead rather a lot happening in the kitchen.
We've had a fabulous feijoa crop this year; we pride ourselves on being good feijoa eaters but this year we're having trouble keeping up with them!
So yesterday I froze at least 6 kgs of pulp. This morning I cooked up some more into chutney...looking forward to trying this batch, it had dates and apricots in it too :-)
And YD did something with her chillies...they look good in the jar...

Last night I finished reading the second of two books I've really enjoyed lately; one, The Promise Girls by Marie Bostwick, and the other, My Secret Sister by Helen Edwards and Jenny Lee Smith. Co-incidently both about families and sisters in particular. (The one by Marie Bostwick is a stand alone novel not connected to her others and not about quiting).(But enjoyable all the same!).

It reminded me that I have had a book sitting here that I was going to Giveaway here on my blog. I acquired a second copy of 'From here to Texas' (also by Marie Bostwick) which is connected to her Cobbled Court series. I have a soft spot for Marie after meeting her years ago on one of her book tours. She was a delightful lady whom I really enjoyed meeting.
Let me know if you would like to win this book...!
So if you haven't yet read this book and would like your own copy, let me know in the comments below. If there is more than one person interested, I'll do a draw for it at the end of the week.
I am happy to post to anywhere and maybe, just maybe, I'll pop a few other goodies in with it :-)
[I've been the lucky recipient of blog giveaways in the past, as well as kindness from blog friends so am wanting to keep the blog love circulating].

Happy stitches ♥

  1. Well I have to admit I am one of the few people who don't like feojoas-in fact don't even like the smell. I am always looking for new authors and haven't read any of Maries books so would love to be considered in your Giveaway Raewyn.

  5. I'm afraid I have never heard of feijoas - can you compare them to something that I might have had? Do they just grow in NZ? I have read some of Marie Boswick's work but not the two you mention or the other one - I will write down the names and see if I can get them at the library for my kindle - wouldn't expect you to put me in the drawing though - too much postage for books!
Sounds like you have been very busy and always nice to read your blog and see what you are doing on the other side of the world!

  6. I've never heard of Feojas either but looked them up on google ( of course, lol) interesting fruit 🍉.
Well done on getting the binding down, will be great to see the whole project when the tabs are sewn on.
As I'm a lover of Audio books 📚 I wish the other ladies luck in winning Marie's book.

  9. I wish I enjoyed feijoas but I just cannot eat them I think it's because of the "perfume" smell.! The rest of the family love them and I once made feijoa and ginger jam which went down a treat - with them! You have a lovely giveaway but as I have a stack of books waiting to be read I will pass on this, thank you.

  10. Great that you got to spend a little time with your Friday night sew in and nearly a finish!
Feijoas yum.....hopefully your tree wont get the moth bug that is attacking the trees and little caterpillars are having a good time munching away on/in the feijoas. Happening with my daughters trees! Enjoy our lovely weather. xxxxx

  11. Lots of binding progress, nearly a 'finish'. I haven't heard of those Marie books either, must order from the library. And we've had a bumper year for feijoas too, been giving them away.

I've never heard of Feijoas .... I'm off to look them up on google!
I'll have to see if I can find those books, but don't put me in your draw .... the postage would be crazy!
    Have a great week!

  15. I take it your feijoas haven't been affected by the guava moth too badly. Saw that new Marie Bostwick at the library the other day, must remember to check it out next time I'm there.

Don't worry about putting me in the book draw - I've read that one too.

  16. Great to get the binding and hanging tabs on your round robin quilt. I have enjoyed reading the feijoa comments, not many people here know what they are either, even though they do grow here. The chutney sounds wonderful...the chillies look amazing, not sure I could eat them though!! I have read some Marie Bostwick books but not that one, would love to be in the draw. Thanks Raewyn.

  17. I expect by now the quilt is fully finished. Not come across the feijoas fruit but just looked it up on google and now know it is a pineapple guava from New Zealand and can also be grown here in the UK not sure where the pineapple connection comes from as looks nothing like one.

  18. nearly finished! When did we start those Round Robins? I'm another one that doesn't like Feijoa......but I do like the smell, all ours have been passed over the fence to the neighbours. The books all look good.

  19. I'll have to look up Feijoas, too! Sounds interesting. I just finished up a round robin, what fun! Can't wait until we swap back to the original sewists and all see our quilts! xo

  24. I've never heard of feijoas, let alone tasted them. Sounds like some people like them and some don't. But obviously you do! Great work in the kitchen. Yes I would love to be in your draw. I've only read a couple of Marie Boswick's books but I have enjoyed them.

  25. Great finish on the quilt. The ones that take a while give you an extra sense of achievement when they are done.
I have to admit that I have never tried feijoas. Something new to look out for.
And yes, throw my name in the hat for the book, too. Love a good read with a recommendation. Thanks for doing a give away!

  26. Same here I have never heard of feijoa before, everything looks yummy including your projects :-)

  27. Cheeky little sneak peek there Raewyn, can't wait to see the quilt finished!
Those books do look interesting, but perhaps a bit depressing... especially the story of the two sisters... that said, I'm reading a book at the moment about an Aussie dad who drowned his 3 sons as revenge to his estranged wife.
I'm not putting my name in the draw for the book, I've plenty to read already

  28. Is the feijoa a fruit or a vegetable? I've not heard of them before. Well done on using them up.

  29. Feijoa? That's a new one for me too, had to google it :-) Sounds nice.

  30. Hi Raewyn, you are doing so well with your binding finish and your cooking! I so enjoyed doing your mystery quilt throughThe Country Yard last year. Was really out of my comfort zone, but am very pleased with my choices in the end and have had lotsa positive comments, so that was lovely! Well done to you for your efforts in making it happen. Haven't read any Marie Boswick books, but sounds like a good recommendation, so please enter me in the draw. Thanks, Debby.

  31. It's so exciting to finish the binding! I have 75% to go on my current quilt. =P Not my favorite part. I have never heard of feijoa and it doesn't look familiar at all! I'll have to look that up. Your chutney looks delicious and your daughter's peppers, too. Marie Bostwick's books are great. I'm not sure where I left off reading when life got too busy. I'll have to go check! Thanks for the suggestions for good reads.

  32. I have to say I have no idea what a feijoa is! Looks like a cross between a kiwi and an avocado! I've never read any of Marie Bostwick's books - there you go, two things I have to google later one :) x

  33. Hello there
    Greetings from Perth Western Australia!!!
I recently read something about Marie Bostwick and her novels...I would love to read it as I have never read any of her books but coincidentally I read about The Promise Girls just recently...weird sort of coincidence!
I have been reading your blog for a while...Love seeing all of your inspiration...I think I happened upon your blog accidentally and I am so glad that I did. This is the first time I have left a message though...
Thank you for sharing all that you do so generously.
    Take care
Loads of love Tanya Hughes xx
